Hypnosis is a safe and naturally occurring trance state that we all experience on a daily basis. You know those times when you're daydreaming or absorbed in a favourite hobby? Maybe reading, watching a good film, playing or watching a sport, gardening etc. You're fascinated... and you don't even notice the minutes ticking by. Time distorts and your focus of attention narrows... you are experiencing trance.
During hypnosis, my client is gradually lulled into a narrowed focus of attention and the normal chatterings of the conscious mind quieten. During this pleasantly relaxed state, the unconscious mind is receptive to positive, powerful hypnotic suggestion so that we can teach the mind a new response and bring about positive, beneficial change.
Experiencing hypnosis is like daydreaming. So, anyone who can daydream can do hypnosis. My clients describe it as a state of deep relaxation and tell me they've enjoyed a wonderfully calm and pleasurable experience. They often look ’lifted’ after a session and some say they feel as though they've had a good night’s sleep!
It's important to note** here that I have successfully treated many traumas, such as: rape, sexual abuse, near death experience, loved ones dying, pregnancy termination, planned suicide, and more. I want to assure prospective clients that lifting a trauma is treated in an entirely comfortable, dissociative way. In fact, I don't even need to know details of the trauma in order to treat it quickly and effectively. Some clients choose not to disclose information about the trauma so we agree a codeword beforehand, which I refer to in the hypnosis so that my client knows what I'm talking about. That's the beauty of using THE most effective technique there is for lifting trauma.
What is Brief Solution-Focused Hypnotherapy?
As a solution-focused hypnotherapist, I work with my clients to set realistic and achievable goals, aiming to achieve those goals in as few sessions as possible. Depending on the nature of the problem and the surrounding circumstances, one, two or more sessions may be required. However, beneficial change can take place after just one session, with my clients often reporting noticeable differences in other areas of their lives which they hadn't expected.
You may wish to read inspirational and encouraging testimonials written by some of my clients by clicking on the 'Testimonials' tab above.
I have successfully treated many children, adolescents and teenagers, usually for anxiety, stress, panic attacks, phobias, blushing and lack of confidence.
Be assured that it is completely safe for children to experience hypnosis (please read above how trance is a safe state and occurs naturally every day).
Before booking a full session for a child, I like to conduct a free of charge Consultation, with parent(s) present. During the Consultation, we have an informal chat about school, friends, hobbies etc, I explain what hypnosis is, how it happens and how I can help. I also offer the experience of a beautifully pleasant 10 minute hypnosis 'taster' which parents can experience too. There is no pressure to book a full session; in fact I prefer for the child to decide, away from the Consultation, whether he or she wants to work with me.
I can say, with confidence, that every child I have seen has engaged extremely well in sessions, probably because children are so open and trusting and allow their fantastic imaginations full reign, which is key to success.
If your child or teenager has experienced a trauma, please read the paragraph above** and be assured that it is not necessary for any client to go over painful experiences which, I believe, only serves to perpetuate the problem.
